Sep 29, 2023 - Pilgrimage to Knock and on to Galway

In the morning, we stopped by Mullaghmore Head for photo stop. Mullaghmore Head is a renowned surfing spot and is described as Ireland's ultimate big wave destination. In distance, there is a Classiebawn Castle. The castle received world-wide attention last year after it was featured in series 4 of ‘The Crown’ – a TV series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.  The land upon which the castle is built was confiscated by the English Parliament from an Irish family (O’Connor family) to compensate those that succeeded in stopping an Irish rebellion.

Then we drove to Knock to visit the beautiful Marian Shrine where the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and John made an appearance to the townsfolk in 1879 (according to the Evangelist)

After that we drove to Galway.  The hotel we stayed was changed from the original Galway Marian Hotel in downtown to Maldron Hotel in Oranmore which is about 20 minutes drive from the town center of Galway.  The tour bus took us to Galway town center and we had about 2 hours of free time to see the Galway town center.

We visited the Eyre Square (walking district of Galway downtown), the Spanish Arch, and walking along River Corrib to see the Galway Cathedral.
